CreationDepot's Humble (and Awkward) Beginnings

CreationDepot began as a one-man-band craft warehouse/Martha Stewart wanna-be, that never really took root – it’s also where the name came from. This was back in 1998 when I had figured out that I was the entrepreneur-type and was trying to figure out what business I might get myself into. I loved art and still do, so the logical step in my mind was to open a business that was the online version of Total Crafts and Michaels (both crafters paradises). I had a whole business plan drawn up, and this was at 18, on how it would all work out. I would write weekly craft tutorials on something similar to what we now call a blog which would drive my traffic, I would sell ad space once my traffic was substantial, and I would have a shopping cart from which I would sell craft supplies via drop shipping directly from the manufacturers.

The problem I ran into had nothing to do with my business plan, or even the concept. The “problem” was that CreationDepot.com attracted another type of client – people who wanted a website and liked mine. So of course I jumped at the chance to make websites for everyone under the sun, including the company I worked for at the time and is still a client today, Rising Edge Technologies, Inc. (www.risingedge.com)

It’s been 11 years now creating this huge array of marketing materials for all kinds of different companies, and I’ve got to say that it’s a process I absolutely love. From designing websites to creating print materials, what makes it great is that I’m helping people to grow their businesses. Marketing is an awesome field, but what’s awesome is being able to see how you visually and fiscally improved another business by helping them to realize their dream in a quantitative and quality driven kind of way. It’s such a fantastic and gratifying feeling to be a part of that process, and I wholeheartedly thank my customers for allowing me to be a part of that process.
