New article on InfoBarrel: Blogging: How to do it and how it translates into customers

Tip: Don’t have time to read? Jump to the end for the step-by-step list!

Okay first things first, the main content distribution channels are Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, and Reddit. These are the networks we’ll be using to help your blog find readers. Now that we’ve got our players let’s move on to how to make these guys work for you.

Step one is to write content about some aspect of your industry. It doesn’t have to be rocket science, just something that’s related to what you do. Let’s say you’re a lumber mill; write four short paragraphs on the type of lumber you collect or the safety measures your company takes for its employees. I know you’re thinking “who would care about that,”….

Learn how to use WordPress for $25/month

Lynda.com logoFor going on 4 years now I have used a company called Lynda.com to help keep myself and others I work with up to date on the latest software, social networks, and even new products. It’s a system of step-by-step clearly dictated video tutorials that teach you in 3-5 minutes chunks how a program works – including WordPress.

WordPress has become incredibly popular because of the simplicity it brings to working with a website. Not only is it a great program to work with, and similar to Microsoft Word, but it’s written so well that it’s easier on programmers too (which greatly lowers the cost of custom work as compared with other content management systems such as Joomla). And due to it’s popularity we’re finding that we are getting a lot of requests for “how tos” from our customers which is the reason for this post. These requests include simple items such as how to add pages and blog posts, to more complex issues like rearranging menu items – all of which are covered in these tutorials. Now we’re always, ALWAYS, happy to answer questions, but sometimes a picture is a thousand words and this is really one of those “teach them how to fish” moments by giving our customers to tools to become really proficient with WordPress. If you still get lost, no worries! We’re still at (703) 531-8669 waiting for your call.

Creating landing pages on Facebook

BMW X5 Default Pre-Fan PageLanding pages or tabs on your Facebook business pages are crucial because it’s a controlled way to talk people into “liking” your page versus having them stare at the wall itself and whatever may be up there at the moment.

Here’s a PERFECT example of a sell/conversion tab: http://www.facebook.com/BMWX5

(and no this isn’t ours, but as a BMW fan I’m always all over these pages!)

Missed Marketing Opportunity: Ledo’s Pizza Napkins

So today we had lunch from my all time favorite Italian restaurant in Centreville, VA – Ledo’s Pizza. Anyone who wants an amazing Italian salad this is the place to go!

And that’s exactly where we got today’s Missed Marketing Opportunity, and it’s literally right under their noses. Ledo’s is amazing not only with their food, but their customer service rocks – it’s one of the reasons we keep going back.

With their bags they throw in branded napkins:

Facebook Comments Form… for your website!

OK how cool is this. Facebook now has an app that will let you can add a comments field directly to your website so your users can interact with your page feed without actually having to visit your page. This is interesting because it means that Facebook could potentially be losing out on advertising revenue by enabling folks to interact away from facebook.com. But what an opportunity for the community and businesses alike.

Now users can comment on your feed, to all your fans, about products, services, events, and so on, without actually having to leave the product page they’re on. Going further, they can post reviews of your company, and give you direct feed back. How awesome is that?

If you’ve ever had trouble trying to get user interaction on your pages up, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. You’ve already got people visiting your site, now give them a reason to interact with you easily and immediately.

Google brings new fonts to the web!

Yeah for Google!

Designers rejoice! We are no longer stuck using non-search engine friendly images for fancy looking text, or are limited to using Arial, Veranda, or Tahoma to try to make our designs catchy while still being search engine friendly!

Google fonts (http://www.google.com/webfonts) now has a giant list of web safe fonts we can utilize in new designs going forward. And because they’re web hosted, that means they are usable in any browser, on any platform.

Nice way to end a Friday!

Fontdiner Swanky is secretly our favorite. ;)

Or maybe Kranky is…

Social Media Monitoring

We recently received a new project from a long time customer: Congressional Motors.

While the page came to us with a typo (Fan’s vs. Fans), a leftover from the days when pages were marked by “Fans” instead of “Likes” that unfortunately we can’t edit (they have over 100 fans), we’ve been doing social media for them for about a week now with informative posts and we’d like to share it with you all to see what you think!
