Starting an online business was a no brainer when

Starting an online business was a no brainer when I lost my full time job in July. (Thank you, 2020...) 😷

I'd actually had CreationDepot, my web design business, since 2008 - remember THAT year anyone?! Like the rest of the world, I had gotten laid off but with a very lucky 3 months of severance. 💰💵

I decided that it was now or never to launch a web design business - and I did just that! And boy was it a rollercoaster. Income was up, down, left and right, and in 2012 I got married! <3 Then a both scary and wonderful thing happened. I got pregnant with our first baby girl! 😍🤰🚼🍼

The fear set in and I went in search of a 9-5 job to stabilize my income for our new arrival. I took a job working for the Office of Head Start's website and stayed there for 8 years! It was originally supposed to be 2 months as a temp!

While there I had our 2nd baby girl, graduated from the University of Virginia, and came to think of our team as family. 👩‍🎓🎓 All the while still running CreationDepot in my spare time. And after my 2nd was born I went to full time remote, which made my setup ideal!

Fast forward several years to July 2020 and I found out my job of 8 years would be ending with only 2 weeks notice. They had lost the renewal on a contract they had for 40 years. It was a complete shock. 🤯🙀

Suddenly, in the middle of a pandemic, my options were very limited. I couldn't take a traditional job because now I had two kids at home. Schools were closed, before and after school care was cancelled, homeschool was a thing, and traveling to DC for work was just not something I wanted to do. Finding another remote position has been next to impossible.

So here we are! Focusing on doing web design, updates, maintenance, WordPress and wireframes through CreationDepot again has been such a blessing. I can make my own hours, juggle the kids, and homeschool while we wait for 2020 to move along. It's not 40 hours per week, but it's a start!
